MOON SWEEPERSINDEPENDENT GAME GUIDE

Moon Sweepers crashes, black screens and startup problems

The documented starting point is update 1.0.4: DirectX 11 is now the Windows default, alongside AMD crash and older Proton startup fixes.

What the developer has already changed

Version 1.0.4 makes DirectX 11 the default on Windows to address AMD crashes. The launch option -force-d3d12 opts into DirectX 12. The update also addresses startup issues with older Proton versions.

First check that the game is updated. An earlier report or launch-week workaround may describe behavior the developer has already changed. Our patch timeline links the original announcements.

A conservative PC checklist

The following steps are general PC troubleshooting, not fixes we have reproduced for Moon Sweepers:

  1. Compare your system with the official minimum requirements.
  2. Update the game and restart Steam.
  3. Use Steam’s file-integrity verification for the installed game.
  4. Install a current graphics driver from the GPU maker.
  5. Review any custom launch options. If you forced DX12, remove that option to test the current DX11 default.
  6. Test after each change so you can identify which one affects the symptom.

Steam Deck and Proton are a separate question

A Proton startup fix is not a native Linux release or a Steam Deck verification badge. The official store lists a Windows build. We have not tested Deck performance, controls or stability.

See platform availability before treating a compatibility-layer report as a supported-platform promise.

Protect progress and report the failure

Before removing local files or trying recovery, copy your important save backups elsewhere. Do not delete saves as a generic first step.

For a useful community report, include the game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, driver version, launch options, error text and the exact moment the failure occurs. We do not recommend random DLL downloads or promise a universal fix for a black screen.
