How many players can join?

The official Steam store lists single-player and online co-op for up to 16 players. It is a Windows PC release. We have not verified a console build or cross-platform matchmaking, so plan your group around the supported Steam version.

For compatibility details, use the platform guide. The store’s online co-op listing is not evidence for local split-screen.

Are upgrades shared? Yes, in the Upgrade Matrix

Changed in 1.0.3The crew uses the host’s Upgrade Matrix. Any player can buy a matrix upgrade for the crew. Older saves retain the highest level already purchased.

Early launch-week accounts describe private upgrades. That advice predates this patch and should not be used to plan a current session. The official wording concerns the Upgrade Matrix specifically; it does not establish shared ownership for all tools, vehicles or inventory.

The upgrade guide keeps that distinction explicit. We also avoid presenting every money-sharing situation as verified when the announcement only confirms the matrix behavior.

Can teammates build on one another’s belts?

Update 1.0.4 allows anyone to place a merger or splitter on another player’s conveyor. A rule saying only the host can do this is outdated for that version. Mergers also alternate between their inputs.

If a shared line misbehaves, use the conveyor checklist before rebuilding your network.

Before the next session

  • Have the host and every crewmate update to a matching game version.
  • Discuss the next Upgrade Matrix purchase together.
  • Keep a copy of important saves before trying recovery or switching versions.
  • Use the host’s kick and ban controls when needed; these were added in 1.0.3.

This is a sourced guide, not a claim that we tested a full 16-player lobby. Check the patch timeline when an old guide disagrees with the current game.
